What is Word of Mouth?

Word of Mouth (WoM) is the process of customers organically talking about and sharing your SaaS, helping your business grow efficiently and on its own.

Examples of Word of Mouth

For instance, we used doped word of mouth to get our first 20 customers for Univid - meaning we helped customers and partners to share our SaaS with their peers by both (A) making it easy to do it, and (B) making them look good doing it - by creating great looking visuals, cases, etc.

Ways customers can share your SaaS are, for example:

  • To a friend in LinkedIn dm

  • To public by leaving a review on G2 or SaaS Tea

  • To a colleague in the lunch room

  • To industry peers a Slack community

Often word of mouth is not public - what is commonly referred to as "dark social" - meaning it's hard or impossible to track.

How to track word of mouth?

The easiest way to do attribution in the cases of dark social is to simply ask..

I do it at the beginning of all demos - or even before through a form that leads can fill in after booking a demo on my calendar link.
