Founder brand - using content and storytelling to give marketing superpowers 👨💻
Storytelling is a super power for founders - use it to your advantage.
The role of the villain
The role of the villain is key to your founder brand.
The villain can be an individual, company, team, or a big challenge people relate to. The status quo is often the villain.
The villian allows you to tap into the art of storytelling, as it (A) gives you a conflict, and (B) allows for conflict resolution. It gives your potential customers and followers an emotional and deep reason to go with you, and not competition.
Hush Blanket's used this strategy to build a $50M B2C brand - building the enemy of bad sleep and how it affects your life. While at the same time, sharing their story of building the company through socials and obsessing about their customers.
8 tips on building founder brand
1. Throw a big launch party
Invite relevant people in your network. Put yourself and your startup in the center of the action by hosting the event.
2. Create a category
For example "conversational marketing" - strategically position company - and create whole new industry. Also, having a clear H1 (like Marc Lou and others praise) will help you position your startup to win. Making it simple helps with (1) understanding, and being able to include it (2) in all customer conversations.

Our tagline at Univid - "create engaging webinars in 60 seconds. This positions us as the easiest and fastest alternative to get started with. In relation to the "enemy" ie. the big complex incumbents that have every feature imaginable - but are a pain to host webinars with.
3. Have your sentences on social media be 7 words or less.
Keep it simple. Don't talk in corporate. Especially, when active in communties. Make it feel personal, easy to understand and personal. I talk more about this in the bestselling book Growth Hacking Reddit (how to get customers using Reddit).

5. Create content (podcast, articles, videos) educate and rally supporters + movement
Build a movement and community - by putting out content. Stay consistent, focus, and build a following. See founders like Marc Lou and Alex Hormozi that built communities for example using Discord and Skool - but leveraging Twitter and Youtube to get the word out there.
Also, many founders run podcasts. For example, Arvid Kahl with The Bootstrapped Founder, or Rob Walling with Startups for The Rest of Us.
6. Print "no status quo" stickers against the villain
Go physical. Print merch and be radical.
7. Write book about the villain and how to solve problem
Many founders also write books. Like founder of Basecamp, Jason Fried that wrote Rework, Jonathan Rintala that authored Growth Hacking Reddit, or Alex Hormozi that wrote $100M offers.

Preferably, write about your villain and the problem that you are solving. Position yourself as a thought leader, and build credibility.
8. Rant on LinkedIn - and build a story in real time.
Like Adam Robinson build out the story in real time - call out the villain, create drama, and get exposure. See how Adam is "shitposting" his way to 100Ks of impressions on LinkedIn to grow RB2B to $1M in 20 weeks. Learn more about building in public with 10 examples to copy.
